Underwater camera without the water

I bought two cameras just before going on holiday. The second camera didn’t get used on holiday so it hung around for a few weeks, only being picked up when I found it whilst tidying up around the house. Thus explains the slightly random collection of images.

Old Polaroids

A while back when photographers were suddenly faced with the prospect that the world would be without polaroids there was some panic. I had a small panic, but my purse could only stretch to two out-of-date boxes of polaroid film. (unlike the photographer in front of me who appeared to buy the shop out) Below are the chosen few. My polaroid camera is one of the cheapest of the cheap, no, actually, it is the cheapest. A little annoying as it means you have to be a certain distance from everything to achieve focus and stop the obligatory flash totally overexposing everything.

I think the ‘past their expiry date’ nature of the film, means that they all look slightly ’70’s – the colour faded and aged.

My favourite is the one below. I just really like the idea of painting and subject together in a photograph.

Findings

Since I began my four day week, I now have more time to sink myself back into images. Through updating my website and reminding myself that I must back up my laptop I have come across countless digital photos which either never quite made it to the printers or just got forgotten, along with the other 300+ taken on that day, back in January…

Back in January we stayed in a remote and very cold cottage, nestled at the base of the Black Mountains.

Ampersand

This new blog is for all those photos I should be taking. Spontaneous shots, arty snaps, disposable camera photographs, polaroids.

Experimentation. Discovery.

& the ramblings that will inevitably go with them…

(why ampersand? – not sure really. I have always liked the way it sounds, the way it looks. The work on this site is in addition to my commisioned work, I do that, AND this…. a positive word to me, always adding)
